Francesco Bagnaia won the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix in front of his title rival Jorge Martin. Marc Márquez also made it onto the podium. Qualifying winner Pedro Acosta crashed out.
Rookie Pedro Acosta started the 2025 Japanese Grand Prix from first place, his first pole position in MotoGP.
Saturday’s sprint winner Bagnaia and Acosta battled for the lead early on, with Bagnaia taking the lead and Acosta falling to second. Binder was running in third. In the first lap, Alex Márquez crashed after contact with Joan Mir, who later retired as well.
Acosta couldn’t capitalize on his pole position, crashing once again after his sprint race fall. Although he rejoined the race, he was at the back of the field with no chance to finish in top 10.
Bagnaia held the lead throughout, with Jorge Martin moving up to second after Acosta’s crash. Binder and Marc Márquez followed closely. Márquez overtook Binder 20 laps from the end to claim third.
Bagnaia gradually extended his lead over Martin, whereas Márquez trailed Martin by several econds. Bastianini meanwhile overtook Binder and got just behind Márquez.
Despite losing part of his advantage in the final laps, Bagnaia took the win in Japan, with Martin finishing second and retaining his championship lead. Márquez completed the podium, while Bastianini narrowly missed out the podium.
Martin now leads the championship by 10 in front of Bagnaia. Next race will take place in Australia.
